Gel Coat Technical FAQ

Q: What is the difference between Brush and Spray Gel Coat?

Spray gel coat has a lower viscosity and faster air release, designed for spray gun application. Brush gel coat is thicker (thixotropic) to prevent sagging when applied by hand on vertical surfaces. We supply both versions.

Q: Why choose ISO NPG Gel Coat over standard Gel Coat?

ISO NPG (Isophthalic Neopentyl Glycol) gel coats provide significantly better resistance to yellowing (UV degradation) and osmotic blistering. They are essential for outdoor and marine products that need to maintain their appearance and integrity for years.

Q: Can I pigment the gel coat myself?

Yes, our gel coats are available in clear/neutral bases that can be pigmented. However, for the most consistent color match and best performance, we recommend ordering pre-pigmented colors directly from our factory.

Q: What is the recommended thickness for gel coat application?

The ideal wet film thickness is typically between 0.6mm and 0.8mm (24-32 mils). Too thin can cause curing issues (alligatoring), while too thick can lead to cracking (pre-release).
